If you are an Irish teacher thinking about teaching in Australia, then you are in the right place. We will get you registered and teaching.

What we do:

  1. Firstly, we provide you with the information you need to begin planning your trip.
  2. Secondly, we provide packages that will have you registered to teach before you land in Australia.
  3. We organise an interview for you with our teaching agency partner in Australia.

Why do I need mycareerbreak.ie?

We have registered many teachers. We understand the pitfalls and stumbling blocks to registering, and know exactly how to solve them.

(e.g. A teacher with a 3 year B.Ed degree, registering in Victoria, needs their application signed off by a principal from Victoria)

Also, teaching agencies are ten a penny in Australia. Like all industries, some are excellent, some are mediocre and some are truly awful to work for. We’ve formed relationships and partnerships with the excellent ones. They have guaranteed all mycareerbreak.ie teachers an interview on arrival.

(Note: As of April 2016, all mycareerbreak.ie customers have received employment from these interviews)

    • Hello Jack,

      Thank you for your email.
My website was initially set up to cater for Primary school teachers.
It began after my struggle to get registered in Melbourne.
To date I have been dealing with just primary school teachers.

However, the agency I supply teachers to have been inquiring about secondary school teachers.
The registration in Melbourne (in which I now solely focus) is centralised, by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). They are akin to our Teaching Council, so both primary and secondary schools teachers go through the same registration.
So I have done numerous applications that you would be applying with.

However, I would need to get you more concrete information on the possible job opportunities.
The agency I supply teachers to, is ran by, a former secondary teacher, James McEniry.
If you would like I could send him your email address and get him to give you some more information.
      Is this ok?

      Kind regards
      Bernard Dalton

      • Ok I would love to be get more information. I am also a teacher of Mathematics. Thanks a million.
        Jack

      • Hello Bernard, I was just emailing to inform if you passed on my email Adress to James McEniry. I am still very interested in finding out more details and would love to get the process started sooner rather than later. Thanks a million. Jack Nolan

  15. Hi there,

I thought I had left a comment already but I don’t see it so I’ll post again in case.

I am interested in teaching in Australia, in particular Melbourne. I have an undergraduate degree in Montessori education and a postgraduate degree in primary education.

I have taught for a year in a Montessori pre school for children aged 3-6 years.

I have also worked in a school for children on the autism spectrum which used the ABA approach.

I am just coming towards the end of 2 years experience in a mainstream primary school, having taught senior infants and second class.

I am looking for information on what I would need to teach in Melbourne. I’m not sure what type of visa I would require so any help would be gratefully received.

    Thanks,

    Karen

    • Hi Kevin,

Here is the information, I usually share with people. The process may be different for you of course, but we can clarify this before we start anything.

My name is Bernard Dalton. I am principal in Glengurt NS, Tournafulla, Co:Limerick. http://www.glengurtns.scoilnet.ie This is my 10th year out of college. I traveled to Melbourne 6 years ago and went through the arduous process of registering there. I was fortunate to have a Masters, so the process was easier for me. On returning, with the help of the agency in Melbourne, I decided to set up http://www.mycareerbreak.ie . This is my fourth year doing this, I have place 20-30 teachers in Melbourne and Sydney. I have now decided, because of work and family, to focus just on Melbourne. I have great links with the agency Melbourne and they are really proactive in organising subbing and contract work.

Over the years, through experiences both positive and not so positive, I have revised the process and feel now that I provide an effective and efficient service. I have listed the steps below:

      1. You fill in an application form.

      2. I check to see if your qualifications meet the correct criteria. (Note: A 3 year B.Ed is fine)

      3. I send the application to the agency in Melbourne where they decided if your experience is suitable for their schools. (Usually, a minimum of 3 years experience is required)

      4. Once given the ok, we arrange a meeting.

      5. At the meeting, I give you all the letters and application forms needed to gather your documents from the various institutes. (Gardaí, colleges, Board of Managements, etc)

      6. At this meeting, you sign the paperwork for the VIT (Victorian Institute of Teaching), this means you won’t have to meet me again! We also have a chat about the dress code, curriculum and the expectations of the agency in Melbourne. You will also be required to pay the €195 fee at this meeting.

      7. We wait for the documents from the Gardaí, colleges, etc, these are then sent to me.

      8. Once I received them, I double check them and then send paperwork and supporting documents to the VIT.

      9. If you have a 3 year B.Ed, I get a principal in Melbourne to endorse your application.

      10. The VIT send an invoice for your annual fee and registration cost. This is $129 Aus dollars and is paid by you.

      11. Once this is paid the VIT card will be sent to you.

      12. We arrange a date for your interview to with the agency in Melbourne, this is in essence a chat to make sure you are suitable. Note: No teacher has ever not received employment from the agency.

The length of the registration process is very much based on the length of time it takes for you to gather your documents. I will have everything ready to be sent at the meeting. Once the documents have been received it usually takes 6-8 weeks.

I hope this answers some of your questions, I have attached the application form. Initially, you do not need to fill in every part, as you qualifications and experience are the only important thing at the beginning.

      Kind regards

      Bernard Dalton
